Are you considering to move to Qlik Sense SaaS edition? Or have you already done so? If yes, then we have great news for you! Our writeback extension works on the SaaS editions of Qlik Sense as well. And as we will show you below it is still very easy to setup and use. So read along and see how you can expand your Qlik Sense SaaS edition with writeback capabilities.
There are very few differences in how you configure Komment on SaaS and Enterprise editions. So you can without any worries start from our user guide which you can find here. You can also read our other tutorial Get started with Komment in 5 minutes.
There are three areas where small setup changes are needed:
After you have uploaded the Komment extension via the QMC you need to make a small change to the content security setup. So navigate to the menu item Content Security Policy => Select the Komment extension and press Edit => In the Directive section select connect-src and press Save.
In Qlik SaaS editions you don’t have to specify your QVD Data Connection when setting up Komment. You just keep it as is:
This is the only change you need to do in the UI inside your Qlik Sense app when you have configured what your writeback objects should contain. You can now move to the last setup step which is to add the needed logic to the Data load script.
While still in the UI of Komment, go to the Setup section and press the Preview Load Script button. Press Initialize Data Model to have your load script updated with a new section in the data load editor.
As you have not chosen a specific QVD Data Connection you need to modify the script slightly but as you can see here it is very easy to do. Just replace "undefined" with the name of your desired Data Storage. In the below example "undefined" is replaced with "DataFiles".
As the SaaS edition works a bit different from Enterprise edition there is one last change to be done. In the line (11 in the above example) that has the FOR EACH vFile command you must use “/” after DataFiles instead of "\" as it is by default:
You can now do a full reload of the application and you are ready to use Komment directly in your Qlik Sense SaaS edition.
If you wish you can then access the QVDs holding the saved data directly from the data load editor:
We hope the tutorial has been useful and that you are already now using Komment as your Qlik Sense SaaS writeback solution. Feel free to reach out if you have any comments or you are in need of further information.
